Picture this: September 9th, 2023 – a day that will go down in the books for our community. We embarked on an ambitious journey to restore the beauty of our beloved intersection at Atlas Road and Finch Road in Boksburg, and boy, was it an exhilarating adventure! The driving force behind this monumental cleanup? None other than Consolidated Auto Boksburg, who stepped up to the plate as our trusty sponsor.
Why did we choose this particular intersection, you ask? Well, let’s rewind a bit. Earlier in the year, our community faced quite the ordeal when the local dump wasn’t cleared for weeks. The result? Piles of unsightly rubbish cluttering our streets. It was high time we took action, and action we did take!
Our mission? To cleanse a staggering 5700 square meters of open field and nearly 2 kilometers of curbs and islands – no small feat, I assure you. We rallied the troops by sending out bulletins to local businesses and estate agents, and the response was nothing short of incredible.
On the big day, we were joined by over 100 dedicated volunteers, a heartwarming mix of individuals and companies. Foster Packaging, Intro Benoni, Rawsons Boksburg – these were just a few of the fantastic organizations that came to lend a hand. Divided into three powerhouse teams, led by Andre Fourie from Tazzman, Riaan de Wet from Perimeter Protection, and Vincent Janse van Rensburg, our volunteers were ready to tackle anything in their path.
But wait, the story doesn’t end there! CMS, our generous supporter, joined us to tackle the overgrown brush on a sprawling field. The day was long, beginning at the crack of dawn, around 6:30 am, and stretching well past 5 pm. Yet, our spirits remained high as we witnessed our efforts transform this intersection into a cleaner, more vibrant space.
Our achievement? We filled over five massive skips, collected a whopping 360 bags of litter, and used a remarkable 80 liters of road surface paint. This project was undoubtedly one of our grandest endeavors to date.
However, the work is far from over. There’s still a lot of ground to cover – quite literally. There’s a heap of rubbish lurking behind the dump at Impala Lake, the field on Finch and Brentwood Road, and the road running past the dump. Fear not, dear community, for we’re already planning future projects to continue our quest for a cleaner, greener Boksburg. So, stay tuned, because together, we’re making our community shine like never before!
